50+ Adventures: Stand-up Paddleboard Lesson

Join Outdoor Recreation School instructors to learn the fundamentals and versatility of stand-up paddleboarding (SUP). This program is for people either new to SUP or wanting a refresher. You’ll learn about the equipment, basic paddle strokes and how to navigate the water safely in variable conditions. Practice paddling in multiple positions (laying, sitting, kneeling and standing) and get comfortable getting on and off your board in the water. The physical level is easy to moderate, depending on the options you choose during the program. Flexibility is needed for sitting or kneeling on board. Strength and balance are needed for standing, but standing is optional. $35/person.


Adapted Camp for Youth with Cognitive Disabilities

Make new friends while you explore the park. Try camp activities like kayaking, archery, fishing and geocaching, led by instructors from the Outdoor Recreation School. All equipment is provided, including adapted kayaks and archery equipment.

Adapted Lake Kayaking

Join instructors from the Outdoor Recreation School to help you adapt a boat to your body and abilities before we take to the lake for kayaking! We will start on land as we individualize adaptations to boats and paddles and then prepare to move to the water. Once on the water, we will practice paddle strokes, maneuvering our boats and then enjoy a tour of the lake. This program is designed for paddlers with disabilities. All equipment is provided, including high-back seats with side supports. If you have a seat pad you would like to use and are comfortable with it getting wet, please bring it. One family member, friend or PCA is welcome to join free of charge to assist with communication, transfers and/or personal needs. $25/person.


Adapted Mountain Bike

Join instructors from the Outdoor Recreation School while experiencing the thrill of riding a modified handcycle mountain bike on park trails. Bikes are provided for the program. Participants will need to wear a helmet during the program and are encouraged to also bring eye protection and hand protection. If participants do not have access to their own helmet, eye protection or hand protection, these items will be provided for use during the class. Participants are encouraged to bring a family member or friend to accompany on foot while they bike. Participants ages 17 and under must be accompanied by an adult. $15/person.


Advanced Communications Workshop

Join the Outdoor Recreation School and instructor trainer Nancy Uschold, for an immersive weekend of training to experiment and expand your paddle sport teaching skills. The Advanced Communications Workshop (ACW) focuses on methods to promote seamless integration and address the needs of individuals with speech and language impairments, hearing impairments or deafness, and visual impairments or blindness. This hands-on course is designed for (but not limited to) American Canoe Association (ACA) Certified Instructors. It provides a basic understanding of disabilities along with a toolbox of techniques for skill acquisition and risk management. Upon successful completion, current ACA Instructors will earn the Advanced Communications Endorsement. Participants in this course use existing teaching experience with new methods as we consider working with specific individuals or audiences. Participants in the course should be comfortable teaching foundational paddling skills in a kayak. If you have questions about if this course is right for you or other questions about this course, reach out to Grant.Armour@ThreeRiversParks.org. Please note that there will be pre-coursework to do. The meeting on September 9 will be over Zoom from 6–8 p.m. Central time; the rest of the program will be in-person at Fish Lake Regional Park on September 12 and 13 from 8:30 a.m.–5:30 p.m. Equipment provided.


Cedar Lake Farm Boat Tour & Picnic

The city of Prior Lake in collaboration with Three Rivers-Scott County are looking forward to a day trip to Cedar Lake Farm Regional Park. Located on the south shore of Cedar Lake near New Prague, Cedar Lake Farm Regional Park is a picturesque site for picnicking, fishing, educational and recreational activities. Join us as we explore the park, take a group boat tour on Cedar Lake, fish from the pier (fishing poles and boat tour provided by “Let’s Go Fishing”), check on the purple martin nests, take a stroll to tour a lakeside cabins, try your hand at watercolor painting and enjoy a self-packed picnic on the park grounds. Pencil in a back-up date of July 8 in case the weather does not cooperate on June 24. Dress for the weather, pack a picnic lunch, and bring water, sunscreen and bug spray. NOTE: Transportation available. You may meet at Cedar Lake Farm Regional Park at 10 a.m. or depart from Club Prior on a chartered bus at 9:30 a.m., arriving back at 2:30 p.m. Club Prior's address is 16210 Eagle Creek Ave SE, Prior Lake. The chartered bus is free thanks to an equity grant secured by Scott County through the Met Council. $30/person.


Dangerous Camp

Go on adventures through woods, fields and water. Build forts and fires, and catch fish and frogs. Go on a bike ride, learn about animal camouflage and cook over a campfire. Bikes and helmets provided. Extended care available for an additional $75; drop-off begins at 8:30 a.m. and pick-up ends at 5 p.m.

Try different techniques and hone skills while learning from experienced Outdoor Recreation School instructors and professionals in the fishing industry. Try angling from a watercraft and from a riverbank. Equipment provided. Transportation to specific fishing locations will be provided by Outdoor Recreation School staff during camp hours.


Extreme Fishing Camp: North

In Extreme Fishing Camp, participants will learn to fish different bodies of water in search of various species like: panfish, bass, northern pike, walleye, catfish, redhorse sucker and more! Try different techniques and hone skills while learning from experienced Outdoor Recreation School instructors and professionals in the fishing industry. Try angling from a watercraft and from a riverbank. Equipment provided. Each day, campers will meet at one of four parks: French Regional Park, Fish Lake Regional Park, Silverwood Park and Mississippi Gateway Regional Park. Parents are responsible for drop-off and pick-up on each day of camp at one of the locations listed above. These locations will be communicated in the pre-camp email. Transportation to specific fishing locations will be provided by Outdoor Recreation School staff during camp hours.


Extreme Fishing Camp: South

Family Adventure Day: Archery & Fishing

Are you looking for a day of outdoor adventure the whole family can enjoy together? Join the Outdoor Recreation School for a Family Adventure Day where you’ll learn to hit the target and reel in the fun! Start on the archery range as our instructors teach you how to safely aim, draw, and shoot like a pro. Cheer each other on, test your accuracy, and see who can hit the bullseye! Then head to the water to practice casting, baiting, and try your luck at catching a fish or two. Learn tips and tricks while enjoying time together outdoors. This program is designed for all skill levels and focuses on fun, teamwork, and trying something new as a family. $18/person.


Family Canoeing

Get your family out on the water with instructors from the Outdoor Recreation School. We will help you improve your paddle strokes to be more effective and efficient while having fun and making safe paddling decisions. Enjoy learning and exploring the lake together. Each person must register and pay. $12/person.


Fishing & Outdoors Camp

Join the Outdoor Recreation School for a summer camp focused on fishing and other fun recreation activities! Spend time each day learning about fishing equipment, how to safely handle a pole and a fish, tie knots and cast your line. Fly Fishing Float Boat Trip: Mississippi River

Interested in chasing fish on the Mississippi River? Join instructors from the Outdoor Recreation School and from Fishing for All for this unique guided fly fishing experience. Enjoy time in a stable, comfortable, oar powered float boat with a guide and another angler. Learn how to read the river, decide which flies and techniques work best, and learn how one can experience trophy bass fishing from locations close to home. Previous fly fishing experience is strongly recommended for this program. All fishing gear and a catch-and-release fishing license are provided for use during the program. A brimmed hat and polarized sunglasses are strongly recommended, but not required. Please bring your own packed lunch and nonalcoholic beverages. $250/person.


History Kids Camp: The Myers Kids of Crane Island

Enjoy summertime at the lake. Immerse yourself in the story of young Marjorie Myers Douglas, author of "Barefoot on Crane Island"—a book about her childhood summers spent on an island in Lake Minnetonka in the 1920s. Explore the lake with a boat tour around the islands of Upper Lake Minnetonka. Go fishing from shore, swim at the swim pond and explore nature around the lakeshore. Meet live animals from Lowry Nature Center and discover the fascinating history of Lake Minnetonka.


Homeschool Family: Fishing

Drop a line in the mighty Mississippi River to see what’s biting. Learn river fishing techniques and discover which fish call this river home. Equipment, bait and fishing license provided for the program.


Kayak Essentials

Learn safety skills and proper paddling form and techniques with Outdoor Recreation School instructors. Beginners and anyone who has never had formal kayak instruction will gain knowledge and skills from this class. Equipment provided. $50/person.


Kayak Series: Flatwater to Moving Water

Hone your paddling technique, learn the basics of reading and navigating river currents, and get familiar with the Mississippi River Paddle Share program while enjoying the beauty of kayaking. In Celebration of the Big Year of Rivers, join instructors from the Outdoor Recreation School and Mississippi Gateway Regional Park for an educational and fun, two-part kayak series. The flatwater lake session will focus on refining our paddle technique while exploring key concepts for kayaking on moving water. The session includes time on the water as well as on-land instruction. The river session starts just below the Coon Rapids Dam and will put our skills into practice. The 7.5-mile route includes occasional mild rapids, fun riffles and opportunities for wildlife viewing. Some endurance and strength is needed for 2-2.5 hours of active paddling. Return shuttle transportation is provided. This series is geared towards people with prior paddling experience who are looking to learn more. Participants must be comfortable on and in the water. Flexibility and balance are needed for getting in and out of the kayak with a reasonable amount of assistance. NOTE: This is not a whitewater kayaking class. July 1 session at Fish Lake Regional Park; July 8 session at Mississippi Gateway Regional Park. $85/person.


KidSplash: Introduction to Kayaking

Leave the adults at home and join the Outdoor Recreation School to learn the basics of kayaking in this youth drop-off program. Then participate in games designed to test your new skills while on the water. $20/person.


Minnesota River Fishing Camp

Join instructors from the Outdoor Recreation School to explore methods for river fishing and learn about unique river fish like gar and drum. Hunt for river critters to use as bait for catfish, carp, bass and other large fish. Drop a line from shore and, while wading, head down river to find secret fishing spots. Watch demonstrations by professionals in the fishing industry. Equipment provided. Transportation to specific fishing locations will be provided by Outdoor Recreation School staff during camp hours.


Mississippi River Fishing Camp

Join instructors from the Outdoor Recreation School to explore methods for river fishing and learn about unique river fish like gar and drum. Hunt for river critters to use as bait for catfish, carp, bass and other large fish. Drop a line from shore and, while wading, head down river to find secret fishing spots. Watch demonstrations by professionals in the fishing industry. Equipment provided. Reservations required by two weeks prior. Native Rough Fish Scavenger Hunt

Ever heard of a bigmouth buffalo or freshwater drum? Join a naturalist to learn about Minnesota's unsung native rough fish, non-game fish, while practicing a new skill. Use a map to locate hidden trivia along the trail and collect prizes. Drop in any time. All ages welcome. Free.


Nature’s Neighborhoods Camp

Explore a river, pond, field and forest to discover where animals find their food, build their homes, sleep and play. Catch insects, frogs and fish, play games and meet animal ambassadors that call these habitats home. Extended care available for an additional $75; drop-off begins at 8:30 a.m. and pick-up ends at 5 p.m.


Outdoor Adventure Camp

Get ready for summer adventures! Put your survival skills to the test with shelter building and fire-making. Step back in time with historical games like spear throwing. Practice your precision and archery skills with a compound bow. Try your luck at baiting a hook and reeling in a fish at Bush Lake. Take to the water and enjoy a canoeing adventure on scenic Turtle Basking Pond. Learn essential outdoor skills and cool tricks from seasoned experts to prepare for your future adventures. Registration required by two weeks prior.

Silverwood OnStage: Fish on Hooks in Concert

Silverwood OnStage invites you to come to the park and enjoy the music of the Fish on Hooks. A collection of fish who have, by happenstance, found themselves on hooks. Bluegrass, folk and experimental psych in Minnesota. Performances take place from 6:30–8 p.m. in the outdoor amphitheater or inside the visitor center Great Hall in the case of inclement weather. Stand-up Paddleboard Lesson

Ready to find your balance? Join Outdoor Recreation School instructors to learn the fundamental skills and versatility of stand-up paddleboarding (SUP). You’ll learn about the equipment, basic paddle strokes and how to navigate the water safely in variable conditions. Practice paddling in a variety of positions—laying, sitting, kneeling and standing—and gain confidence getting on and off your board in the water. Whether you’re brand new to paddleboarding or looking to refine your skills and build confidence, this session is designed to meet you where you’re at. $35/person.


Swimming Lessons: Level 2

Learn how to fully submerge and hold your breath, change direction of travel, and more. Practice front, jellyfish and tuck floats. Successful demonstration of Level 1 skills required. Learn water safety and swimming techniques. Instructors are lifeguards certified through the American Red Cross to teach swimming lessons. Program participants and family members in their household receive a $3 discount for season swim pond wristbands. Please call Guest Services at 763-559-6700 to receive the discount.
