Campfire Cooking: Farmers Market Edition

Our farmers market theme is always a hit, so we are bringing it back again this year with new items and recipes! Bring your family and friends for a unique dining experience. Wondering what to do with all the great fresh items you find at the farmers market this time of year? Cook them over the campfire! Make your next cookout amazing with tips and recipes everyone will love. Cook and eat tasty food during this wilderness feast. We will make several items including veggie fritters cooked in a Muurikka. Come give it a try! $14 ages 16+; $10 ages 3-15; children under 3 free.


Community Supported Agriculture (CSA)

With a CSA share, you pay a one-time fee for weekly pickups from mid-June through mid-October (18 weeks). Shareholders select their own items every week at a market-style pick-up at the farm. Your pick-up day is the same each week; either Tuesdays from 3:30–6 p.m. or Saturdays from 8:30 a.m.–12:30 p.m. (one hour prior to the Saturday Market public opening). We don't offer partial shares, but you may split shares on your own.


Ecology of Dice & Dragons Camp: River at Risk

After answering Acer Township’s call for help with a neighboring village attacking their farms, you discovered that the entire village looks to have been poisoned. You suspect you know the culprit but you have no proof. Jump into adventure along the banks of the Mississippi River, gather evidence by testing the river’s health, raft down the river itself and risk the possibility of nature fighting back. This camp will involve the playing of Dungeons and Dragons inside and doing activities outside.


Family Fiber Fun

Bring the whole family for a hands-on wool adventure. Meet the sheep, learn how wool is transformed from fleece to fiber, and create your own take-home fiber projects together. Explore the fascinating process of wool production while enjoying a fun and creative day on the farm. $75/group (max three people)


Family Pizza Night

Top your own pizza with farm-fresh ingredients and watch it get cooked in our outdoor pizza oven. Enjoy pizza, a Gale Woods grown salad and s’mores for dessert. Visit the animals in the barn and on the pasture and explore the garden. Start times are for cooking activities; all other activities are ongoing 4:30p.m. to 7:30p.m. Please be on time for your start-time to ensure everyone is able to participate in all activities. $16 for ages 12+; $12 for ages 2-11; under 2 free.


Farm & Wilderness Camp

Farm life is full of hidden lessons. With the natural world as our teacher, investigate our link to the land while caring for the animals and gardens, then harvest veggies, eggs and more to prepare your own farm fresh snacks. Foster respect for nature while gaining valuable skills through wilderness challenges like orienteering and fire building, culminating with an overnight camping adventure on Thursday. Pick up on Friday will be 11 a.m.


Farm Adventures Camp

Venture through the marvels of the farm. Learn about the animals, prepare snacks straight from the gardens, and investigate the farm’s natural areas through insect hunts, art projects and games.


Farm Explorers Camp

Explore the barn and beyond with hands-on activities, hikes and games. Each day we’ll trek to visit the animals, harvest from the gardens and uncover a new secret of life on the farm.


Farm Quest Camp

Journey through the farm to examine the connection between people, land and food. Each day a new mission awaits! Quests include farm chores, cooking snacks straight from the garden, farm crafts and exploring beyond the barn.


Farm to Jar: Basic Canning

Preserve the flavors of the harvest in this hands-on introduction to water bath canning. Learn the skills and knowledge of home food preservation, including proper equipment and food preparation. Using seasonal produce from the farm, you'll go home with a delicious jar of our finished product and the confidence to make more of your own at home. No experience necessary and all materials included. $45/person.


Felted Fall Flowers

Turn wool from Gale Woods Farm sheep into colorful felted flowers. Learn wet felting techniques as you create a multi-colored flower with a stem. Once you've learned the basics, use your new skills to make additional flowers and create your own fall bouquet to take home. No experience is needed, and all materials are included. $45/person.


Felted Rug

Create a rug using the nomadic felting method along with modern day techniques. Learn various techniques to add design to your project. We'll leave time to meet the sheep and hear more about processing wool. No prior experience needed. All materials included. $70/person.


Field to Fork Camp

Trace the route your food follows from our fields to your fork! Prepare fresh recipes with ingredients harvested directly out of the gardens and from the farm. Become stewards of the land as you learn what it takes to grow fruits and vegetables, and discover how milk, honey and other food make it to your dinner plate.


Field to Fork: Cooking with Kids

Join us for a hands-on cooking experience on the farm! Spend time in our garden exploring and harvesting and then use those farm-fresh ingredients to create a delicious snack. $10/person. Ages 2-12 plus adult, under age 2 free but must register.


From Lamb to Ewe: A Sheep's First Year

Join us for a unique, in-depth experience that connects livestock care with fiber education from pasture to product. This immersive, four-part series follows the journey of a sheep from birth to adulthood. Participants will explore the life cycle of a lamb, gaining a deeper understanding of its growth, care and the development of its fleece. We'll culminate by attending our shearing event that will include a live demonstration, allowing students to observe and learn what happens to the wool through the steps of processing. Each session combines hands-on activities with guided discussion, weaving together animal husbandry with the science and art of wool. Meets Sundays 4/26, 6/28, 8/30, 10/25, and Saturday 11/21.


Garden Mocktail Party

Join us for a relaxing summer evening in the garden and learn how to mix refreshing mocktails featuring seasonal ingredients grown right here in our gardens. Sip your creations as you stroll through the garden to enjoy the flowers and pick a small bouquet to take home. Visit nearby farm animals on the pasture and hop on a short wagon ride to take in the beauty around the farm. Start times are for mocktail mixing activities; all other activities are ongoing 6:00p.m. to 8:00p.m. Please be on time for your start-time to ensure everyone is able to participate in all activities. $12/person.


Geocaching for S'mores - Scott County

Yummy, gooey s’mores! Learn geocaching basics from Outdoor Recreation School instructors and use your newly learned skills to search for delicious treasure. This program is in partnership with Scott County. $8/person.


Grimm Farm Open House

Visit the Grimm Farm Historic Site to explore the self-guided exhibits and participate in a hands-on activity at the house. Discover how Wendelin Grimm cultivated the first winter-hardy alfalfa, which fed Midwestern cattle and the dairy industry. Learn about the Grimm family and life on an 1800s farm in Minnesota. All ages welcome. Free.


Homeschool Drop-off Series: Fall Harvest

Follow the journey from farm to table as we harvest seasonal crops, and explore how both plant and animal food are grown and cared for. Discover how the farm prepares for winter and learn basic food preservation methods that help carry the harvest into the next growing season. $110/student.


Homeschool Drop-off Series: Farm Frenzy

Experience the changing seasons on the farm through hands-on exploration and outdoor discovery. Investigate the connections between farming and nature as we explore forests, pastures, gardens and the barn, and learn how the farm and nature are preparing for winter. $110/student.


Homeschool Drop-off Series: Soil to Sprouts

Dig into spring and explore how healthy soil helps plants and animals grow! Discover the basics of animal and garden care, and learn how farms provide food for both people and animals. Spend time tending to the gardens, caring for the animals and exploring the connections between healthy soil and life on the farm. $110/student.


Homeschool Drop-off Series: The Science of Spring

Discover the systems that bring the farm to life each spring! From plant and animal life cycles to seeds, soil and weather patterns, explore how everything on the farm is connected to the world around us. Through hands-on animal care, garden activities and guided observation, students will build critical thinking skills and gain a deeper understanding of how farms function as living, interconnected systems. $110/student.


Homeschool Drop-off: Ewe Know It!

Work alongside Gale Woods farmers to explore how we plan for and make livestock care decisions for our sheep. Assist as we select for high quality traits and move sheep into our breeding groups. Learn animal diets and annual movements that help maintain the health of the animals and the pastures throughout the year. $26/student.


Homeschool Drop-off: Farm to Fiber Art

Explore the world of fiber art as you learn about sheep and the wool they provide. Discover how wool is processed after shearing and the various ways fiber can be transformed. Create a wool craft of your very own and meet the sheep where that wool came from. $26/student.


Homeschool Drop-off: Holiday Gifts

Join us for a unique experience that combines creativity, connection with nature and delicious farm-fresh treats. Create one-of-a-kind, handcrafted gifts using farm products and recycled materials, and share your creations with loved ones. Explore the farm while enjoying a winter wonderland activity and meet the animals. $50/student.


Homeschool Drop-off: Pollinators in Action

Discover the exciting world of pollinators at Gale Woods Farm! Investigate flower anatomy and the science of pollination. Embark on a pollinator scavenger hunt in our teaching garden to learn about the importance of pollinators to our food system, and enjoy a sampling of foods they help bring to our tables. $21/student.


Homeschool Drop-off: Wooly Wonders

Enjoy a day full of the wonders of wool! Learn fun facts about sheep and wool through hands-on activities and visiting them in the barn. Learn various ways to work with and create crafts with wool from Gale Woods' sheep. $26/student.


Homeschool Family: 3D Felting

Bring the family and explore the art of felting. Learn how wool can be shaped and transformed into a three-dimensional creation using simple felting techniques. Families will discover the process from start to finish while creating their own unique project to take home. Beginners welcome. $18/person.


Homeschool Family: Chickens in Your Backyard

Get tips from a Gale Woods farmer and learn what you need to know about raising chickens at home. We'll discuss legal requirements, coop designs, feed, breed selection, biosecurity and more! Take a tour of the chicken coop at Gale Woods to get design ideas of your own. $10/person.
