Fall Equinox Hike & Campfire

Celebrate the changing season with an evening outdoors. As day and night find balance, join the Outdoor Recreation School for a guided hike through the beauty of autumn—crisp air, changing leaves, and the sights and sounds of the season all around us. After the hike, gather around the campfire to relax, connect and roast marshmallows. Bring warm layers, your sense of adventure and welcome the new season with us! $8/person.

Mountain Bike Camp: South

Join the Outdoor Recreation School to discover the basics of singletrack riding. Explore the importance of balance, proper riding position and technique through drills and riding 5-15 miles a day both on and off the singletrack. Campers must bring their own multi-geared mountain bike and a helmet each day. In the case of severe weather, this camp may need to cancel for the day.

Paint the Prairie

Step into the beauty of early fall with a guided walk through the prairie while learning to identify late blooming wildflowers. We'll take time to observe the shapes, colors and textures of wildflowers like prairie blazing star, goldenrod and asters. Inspired by our walk, we'll return to a campsite complete with outdoor easels to capture the prairie's vibrant spirit with watercolor paints. All materials provided—just bring your curiosity and creativity. This program is in partnership with Scott County. All ages welcome. Free.

Prairie Seed Collection

Be a part of the prairie restoration process! Hike with us into gorgeous, lush prairies to collect native wildflower seed. All seed collected will support continued restoration of the nearly 2,000 acres of prairie in Three Rivers Parks. No experience necessary; we'll provide training at the start of each session. Reservations required. Free.

Rolling Hills Hike

Join us for this moderately challenging 7-8 mile hike on turf trails within Murphy-Hanrehan Park Reserve as it winds us up and down rolling hills. We will be accompanied by experienced through-hikers who have done “The Camino” in northern Spain and can give us a sense of what through-hiking is all about. This trail has pit latrines and drinking water available every three miles. This program is in partnership with Scott County. Free.
