This camp is all about wood and woodcarving! Start at the source, learning about local tree species and their structure, as well as how to sustainably harvest green (fresh) wood. Then focus on different cuts, hand grips and sharpening techniques. Spend the rest of the week working on projects such as chopsticks and butter spreaders. To give our hands a rest, we will try other outdoor skills like fire-building, shelter building and games. Basic hand strength is required (such as the ability to open a sealed jar). Tools and materials provided.
Enjoy summertime at the lake. Immerse yourself in the story of young Marjorie Myers Douglas, author of "Barefoot on Crane Island"—a book about her childhood summers spent on an island in Lake Minnetonka in the 1920s. Explore the lake with a boat tour around the islands of Upper Lake Minnetonka. Go fishing from shore, swim at the swim pond and explore nature around the lakeshore. Meet live animals from Lowry Nature Center and discover the fascinating history of Lake Minnetonka.
Do you have what it takes to be in an adventuring party? Band together with other kindred spirits as we learn the necessary skills to go on a successful quest. Solve puzzles, build survival skills and learn to navigate the natural world as a group. At the end of the week, test your party's skills on a quest. Will you be up to the task?
