Celebrate a Big Year of Rivers Blue Moon, the second full moon of May, out on the water! Join instructors from the Outdoor Recreation School to enjoy an evening of canoeing on Hyland Lake. We will do a brief review of paddle strokes before heading out on the lake, but we recommend participants have some canoeing experience for this program. Equipment provided.
Extreme Fishing Camp, participants will learn to fish different bodies of water in search of various species like: panfish, bass, northern pike, walleye, catfish, redhorse sucker and more! Try different techniques and hone skills while learning from experienced Outdoor Recreation School instructors and professionals in the fishing industry. Try angling from a watercraft and from a riverbank. Equipment provided. We will meet at different parks throughout the camp, including Hyland Lake Park Reserve, Lake Minnetonka Regional Park, The Landing and Bryant Lake Regional Park (Note: the June camp will not visit Bryant Lake). Parents are responsible for drop-off and pick-up on each day of camp at one of the locations listed above. These locations will be communicated in the pre-camp email. Transportation to specific fishing locations will be provided by Outdoor Recreation School staff during camp hours.
Get your family out on the water with instructors from the Outdoor Recreation School. We’ll learn canoeing basics, including safety and paddle strokes, and then enjoy exploring the lake together. Equipment provided. $12/person.
Create fun memories on the water. Learn kayaking safety and proper paddling techniques from Outdoor Recreation School instructors and enjoy paddling around the lake with the group. $20/person.
Join the Outdoor Recreation School for a summer camp focused on fishing and other fun recreation activities! Spend time each day learning about fishing equipment, how to safely handle a pole and a fish, tie knots and cast your line. Try awesome recreation activities such as canoeing, geocaching, archery, slacklining and more. Equipment provided.
Explore trails, meet new friends and feel the health and wellness benefits of exercising in nature. Instructors from the Outdoor Recreation School provide instruction and technique for using Nordic walking poles and will lead a weekly hike. Most of the hikes will be on unpaved dirt trails of Three Rivers parks within the South Metro. Experience the whole-body benefits that Nordic pole hiking provides while also experiencing the social benefits of the club. Nordic walking poles are provided for use during the program. Be sure to have sturdy shoes or lightweight hiking boots to hike on unpaved, possibly muddy trails with hilly terrain. Meets every Monday from April 27th to June 8th at 5:45pm-7pm. Class does not meet May 25th. $36/six sessions.
Join the Outdoor Recreation School for a summer of paddling and celebrating our Big Year of Rivers! Learn new skills, refine your paddling technique and explore parks by watercraft. Some paddling experience recommended. Paddle sports alternate between kayak, canoe and stand-up paddleboard. Locations vary by week. The final day of club will meet for an extended program time of 5:30–8:30 p.m. to paddle on the Mississippi River. Please note that the Outdoor Recreation School is offering two Paddle Clubs this summer. Please limit your registration to just one Paddle Club so that more folks have an opportunity to join. Park locations will vary each week of club. You will be emailed a schedule from your Lead Instructor prior to the first week of club. $190/person.
